"Environment" and "sustainability". This is a binomial which synthesizes one of the greatest challenges of our times, and draws increasing attention from all the firms looking for a balance between economic growth and environmental protection, aiming at a higher efficiency and responsibility in the management of the resources.
Therefore, the constant attention to sustainability is not just a crucial factor for the reduction of the environmental footprint of a product, but rather a true need for safeguarding of our future.
Another opportunity for the environmental safeguard comes from the national standard UNI 10667, which allows factories to reintroduce the so-called "pre-consumer" waste within the same production process. These "waste" are: materials generated during the process development, imperfect products, sprues, shavings and cuts, and rejected, non-compliant, products.
Apart from "pre-consumer" residues, it is also possible to employ plastics from post-consumer recycling, which means coming from separate waste collection of bottles and packaging after their use. These are the so-called "post-consumer recycled" (PCR) plastics.
These materials grant the same physical and mechanical characteristics, as well as those of processability, of traditional plastics coming from synthetic sources, while combining them with a low environmental impact. Thanks to the care put into these practices, all bottles, tottles, and accessories made by Vetronaviglio are also available in post-consumer recycled plastics, which have excellent chemical properties and can be customized in many colours.
Vetronaviglio makes bottles and tottles also in PE PCR, high density polyethylene coming from separate waste collection, and jars and accessories (pumps, caps, droppers, lids and so on) in PP PCR coming from separate waste collection too, thus reducing the quantity of virgin plastic into the environment.
PET bottles (polyethylene terephthalate) can also be made in R-PET. This is PET plastic which has been recycled after its use, and it is almost indistinguishable from virgin plastic, from which it differs only for a slight difference in color.
The Biobased PE is not obtained from oil, but from the fermentatio of plant material, which grew absorbing CO2 from the air. This means that the production of bio-based plastics can actually reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere.
PETG (polyethylene terephthalate glycol) is a polymer very similar to PET, it differs from it due to the presence of "glycols". Vetronaviglio offers a PETG in which the glycol part is obtained by fermentation of plant organisms, instead of being extracted from oil.
Thanks to the continuous research of improvements on environmental sustainability, apart from post-consumer recycling plastic packaging, Vetronaviglio also offers to its clients packaging in post-consumer recycled glass (PCR). This helps to reduce the emission of CO2 into the atmosphere, the usage of raw materials, and fossil resources. So we are able to give a new life to glass packaging at the end of their use.
Unlike traditional plastics, they contribute to the reduction of the environmental impact of the products because:
They reduce the usage, therefore the consumption, of fossil resources;
They contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gases emissions, especially CO2;
They offer, thanks to the recycling process, another opportunity for the disposal of products, reducing the volume of waste.
The environmental impact associated with a product is measured through its Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), according to the international standards of the ISO 14040 series. It is an innovative approach which evaluates the interactions between a product and the environment across all phases of its life cycle, describing its environmental and energetic performances, from the choice of the raw materials up to the final disposal of it. The analyses demonstrate the excellent performances which these plastics can obtain regarding the emissions of greenhouse gases, and the savings of fossil resources.
For all these reasons, Vetronaviglio chose to use these plastics for the making of its products, with the aim of contributing to the promotion of environmental sustainability, and the consolidation of eco-design. Since it is a duty to pay attention to the environmental consequences of the production, the Company is working to obtain the ISO 14001 standard. This standard testifies the compliance with the laws in force, through the establishment of a company management system aimed at reducing the impact of its products on the environment.
